Richard P. Wallace, the Firm's managing partner, passed away on September 15, 2011. He was a graduate of Brown University and Albany Law School, cum laude. After graduation, he served as confidential law assistant to the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Department and was the Assistant District Attorney in Rensselaer County from 1970-71. Mr. Wallace practiced in the areas of trusts and estates, health care, business and corporations and not-for-profit law. In 2007, he was elected by the Board of Regents as a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) in recognition of his distinguished service in the practice of estate planning, probate and trust law.
Mr. Wallace's lifelong commitment to Troy and the Capital District area was reflected in his board memberships - and in many cases leadership roles in such organizations as The Albany Academy- President, Emma Willard School, Troy Cemetery Association - Secretary, United Way of Mohawk-Hudson Area, Inc., Troy Public Library - President, Troy Public Library Foundation - President, Troy Youth Hockey Association - President, Independent School Chairperson's Association, President's Council of Sage Colleges, Rotary Club of Troy - President, The Country Club of Troy, Inc., Troy Commission on the Waterfront, Twin Rivers Council, Inc.,/BSA - President, New York State Museum Institute - President, Historic Troy 2020, Inc. - Treasurer, The Arts Center of the Capital Region - President, Northeast Health, Northeast Health Foundation - President, The Eddy, LTC and Eddy Nursing Services - President.
In 2006, Richard Wallace received the Van Rensselaer Award from the Rensselaer County Chamber of Commerce in recognition of exemplary commitment to improving the lives of individuals through community involvement. In 2009, he received two distinctive awards: the Northeast Health Founder's Award from Northeast Health in recognition of support and commitment of its hospitals in providing compassionate care and the latest technology for diagnosis and treatment, and the 2009 Albany Academy Distinguished Alumni Award.
Mr. Wallace was first and foremost an exceptional attorney and counselor at law. Whether it was providing legal advice to a client, or practical advice to fellow board members, one could always count on him for sound, practical solutions to problems. He will be remembered as a fine attorney, community leader and friend.
